The Grotto – Portland, OR

Dear Ladies of the Sodality,

At the end of August, I traveled to Portland, OR, to offer Mass for a few people who do not have access to the Mass and Sacraments.  While I was there, I came across a Catholic shrine called The Grotto.  It is a national shrine which was founded by a Servite priest and which is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows. I decided to stop in for a quick visit but ended up spending a couple hours there.  The shrine was absolutely beautiful!  While there were many beautiful statues and wayside shrines on the grounds, I think my favorite part was the Way of the Sorrowful Mother.  It consisted of a series of exquisite wood carvings of the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady.  However, the bronze statue of Our Lady of Sorrows was quite amazing, too!!

I thought you might enjoy some of the pictures I took at the shrine, so I put them into a little video.  The link to the video is below.  If you ever happen to be in Portland, OR, this shrine is definitely a must-see.

May you all have a blessed Feast of the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady, and may she guide and protect you in all the trials and sorrows of this life.

In the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart,

Fr. Krug (9/14/2018)
